Our Story
Hello! My name is Matthew Myers. I currently live with my family in a modern farmhouse community near Arcadia, Oklahoma, called The Prairie, a development my business partner and I created in 2016.
My wife, Kim, and I are both native Oklahomans. Our story began on a blind date, which blossomed into a marriage of thirty years. Kim is a registered dietitian, a Master Gardener, and a talented watercolor artist. We share a love for healthy living, lots of laughter, and long walks in nature. Our most important values are faith, family, and friendship. Our family includes our son, Jesse; our daughter, Tess; our granddaughter, Harper; and our lab, Poppy.
Personally, my passions begin with my faith. I’ve always had a curious mind, which leads me to explore new ideas and enjoy meeting people from all walks of life. Growing up, I was active in sports and spent fifteen years in combat athletics, especially wrestling. These days, I prefer hiking quiet Oklahoma trails, fly-fishing in Montana, strolling the art galleries of Santa Fe, or simply sitting on the back porch with a friend. I earned my undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University and an MBA from Oklahoma City University.
I love people—and I love real estate. I enjoy investing in and developing urban projects that inspire connection and leave a lasting impact on the community. We’re always open to new friendships. Development Thoughts
Why the name Switchgrass?
Switchgrass is a beautiful native grass that symbolizes Oklahoma’s rich history of strength and commitment to long-term growth. It thrives in the harsh growing conditions of Oklahoma and has long been recognized as a key component of the productive tallgrass prairie ecosystem that dominated much of the Great Plains for centuries. Interestingly, native tribes used the strong, durable Switchgrass for constructing homes and other building projects, demonstrating its ability to persist in Oklahoma’s tough climate. For these reasons, the name felt like a perfect fit.
Business Background
Our mission is to identify, acquire, develop, and manage real estate assets that give opportunities for our residents to live and work in a safe, secure and community rich environment. Today, our primary focus are assets located in downtown Edmond, Oklahoma.
Acquisition is our disciplined approach of identifying raw land or other real estate assets that can be acquired for a higher use by our stakeholders. Our conservative financial underwriting process and strong equity position allows us to sustain projects as market conditions and tenant demand change over time. Our financial partners typically include private equity investors, traditional banking relationships, opportunity zone investors and agency financing.
Value Add is our accretive process beginning after we acquire land or other real estate assets that bolsters the value to our tenants and other stakeholders. This can be in the form of investing capital into project by adding new amenities, upgrading the asset, repurposing or repositioning the asset or improving the management of the property.
Development is our creative and disciplined process that begins with the customer or tenant experience in mind. Our residential projects aspire to exceed the expectations of our stakeholders from design, execution, construction and management. We believe in constructing amazing and unique places with an artful touch where people want to relax and call home. We set a clear vision for all projects and define our aspirations and values for each property. Then, we design and execute our developments by remaining committed to those values throughout the process. With this approach, our developments often amaze our tenants and buyers. Our development efforts are focused exclusively on downtown Edmond, Oklahoma. This allows our team to have a deep understanding of the history, relationships and assets that have created a thriving city which we believe is the best submarket in Oklahoma.
Asset Management is our process of long-term value enhancement, risk mitigation and communication to our stakeholders. The relationship of a good real estate partner begins long before the property is acquired or constructed. And this relationship thrives over time as the developer remains committed to clear, consistent and accurate communication throughout the holding period of the project solidifying a trustworthy relationship of all stakeholders.
Prior to a career in real estate, I was the co-founder of the GiANT family of companies and worked exclusively in private equity. I worked with leaders to propel the growth of their businesses through my experience in growth strategies, mergers, acquisitions and investments. My goal in each company I serve is to make a positive impact on the people, build lifelong friendships, and create attractive returns for all stakeholders.
